| | The original cattle of the Old West. Living History. A purely bred Texas Longhorn Cow, Bull or Steer brings nostalgia and wonder to old and young alike. If you aren't able to own any, we hope you will visit longhorn ranches across the country to experience their majestic presence and feel the American West come alive before your eyes. The "Rocking 4R" herd reflects the special attention given to horn size, body conformation, color, personality and the ability of each longhorn to pass on their exceptional traits to their offspring. The selection of only the highest quality cattle for inclusion into our breeding program is the only consideration in building our herd.
The "Rocking 4R" was built on a true respect for the breed. We are proud that Texas longhorn Cattle are the only breed of cattle native to our country. The breed is inextricably linked to the unique Western history enjoyed by the United States during the rich century of Westward Expansion and Eastern progress between 1800 and 1900. Texas Longhorn beef was consumed by Texas Rangers, Pioneers, Civil War soldiers, Gold Rush miners, Immigrants, Eastern Socialites, Railroad Barons, and Presidents. The 'mother lode' of beef, found roaming the Texas plains by the millions, provided the necessary food supply and economic stimulation necessary to power this country into the twentieth century.
The Texas Longhorn's evolution in the inhospitable environment produced a breed that is more equipped for survival than any other breed of cattle. In addition to the physical attributes of being able to travel long distances, easy calving, and the ability to turn unlikely forage into the nutrients necessary to survive and breed, these cattle also gained a noticeable gracefulness and almost regal beauty. The advent of selective breeding allowed the breed qualities mentioned to be maintained and allowed the breeder a greater certainty that each calf born would carry on the known traits of long horn length, exceptional color interest. The contact with people generated an overall gentling down of the rangy, fierce cattle originally trailed out of the Texas range to supply the East with beef. That being noted, however; we do not breed pets. We breed cattle that can defend themselves from predators, reproduce without fail, and raise a healthy calf year after year.
Our herd is founded on the 'great' sires and dams of Texas Longhorn recorded history. Our original herd sire, BFMH Inkwell, whose progeny has lived up to all expectations, was a tremendous son of Highwayman out of Center Stage, a great daughter of Tabasco. His 2006 calves will be the last of his legacy, as he suffered an accident in May of 2005. We are extremely pleased with the 2006 calves we have from BFMH Alamo and we are awaiting the first breeding by LWR Hellboy. Our herd boasts such male ancestry as Senator, Classic, Overwhelmer, King, Superior, Coach, Phenomenon, Bold Ruler, Texas Ranger JP, Olympia's Coach, Emperor, and fine representations of the Watson, WR, and US breeding programs. Additionally, we have incorporated the genetics of great cows, among them: Doherty 698, Impressive Lady, Texas Lin, Measles, Delta Fifi, Measles' Super Ranger, Delta Diamond, Amaze, Centerfold, and so many more. There are many other top performers whose names are lesser known, but whose history is equally prolific and stunning within the pedigrees of our chosen cattle. About Calves---
The only way to build a great herd is to start with great cattle. The only way to maintain a great herd is to continue to include new bloodlines that complement and continue to improve the quality of the cattle.E-mail inquiries to sarah@texaslonghorn.us or michael@texaslonghorn.us | |
