To view any of our Registered Texas Longhorns in person - contact us for an appointment. As you research Registered Texas Longhorns, you will see Texas Longhorns registered with the prefix BFMH in front of their names. What is in a name? The BFMH prefix is our promise to you, the discerning cattle buyer. Any Texas Longhorn registered with the prefix BFMH has been bred by the Rocking 4R ranch, regardless of the current owner. It is a mark of an impeccable pedigree bestowed upon Texas Longhorn cattle that are show and breeding quality. The beautiful and historical herd of the Rocking 4R was created by bringing together individual examples of the best breeding and "Old-Style" conformation. By carefully selecting the best examples of purity, beauty, and correct form, over a period of years the Rocking 4R Ranch has build a producing herd whose calves are True To Breed. Although we sell cattle to buyers located out of state, the goal of the Rocking 4R Ranch has always been to be the premier source for true Registered Texas Longhorn stock in Idaho. When does the Rocking 4R Ranch sell cattle? Each year, the Ranch offers yearling calves for sale by auction and/or private treaty. All offers on all cattle are carefully considered. Inquiries can be made at any time. The Ranch will also pre-sell (reserve) calves. If all the calves of a Breeding Cow that or Herd Sire Bull that you would like to own have been sold, the purchase of a cow's next calf can be made prior to birth. A live birth is guaranteed and your new addition to your breeding program will be ready for transport at weaning. Why would anyone purchase a calf unseen? This is the promise of the Rocking 4R True Breeding program. There is a good reason that the pedigree of each Registered Texas Longhorn in our herd is available on this site, as well as a photograph of the Sire and Dam. The genetic background of each animal controls the quality of the offspring. We are assured quality from quality, as are you. How do I keep the breeding record of my calf? Once you have purchased your cattle, the Registration Documents of your Texas Longhorns will be transferred into your name or that of your ranch, and a beginner membership in the Texas Longhorn Breeder's Association of America will be opened for you (if the buyer is not already a member). You will have all the breeding documents for your new cattle, as well as the ability to directly contact the Breeders Association to register your future offspring. Is my calf going to have long horns? It is sometimes difficult for first-timers in the rapidly growing Longhorn market to see the possibilities within a young, or yearling, calf. If the new enthusiast does not know the lineage history or benchmark animals and the characteristics for which their offspring are prized, then even showing the pedigrees doesn't assist with the leap between a colorful calf just beginning to grow horn and the powerful and beautiful Longhorn that is contained in the genetic package, along with the disease resistance, easy calving, and intelligence. To illustrate the progression that is bred into BFMH registered calves, here are some examples:
